Events in TarifaWhat's up in TarifaIn this section we will keep you updates about upcoming events in and around Tarifa. The Semana Santa (Easter) for 2005 starts on March 18th and ends on the 27th. In this period the traditional celebrations take place and the town fills up with Spaniards on holiday. The first weekend in September is a fixed date in Tarifa calendar for the annual Feria (fair). This week long event represents the most important period of the cultural calendar in Tarifa. The Cabalgata rings in the party when hundreds of horsemen escort the patron saint of Tarifa (the virgin of light) from a nearby shrine into the centre of Tarifa town. Many set up pavilions at the fair yard that invite you to eat, drink, and dance all night long. The streets are filled with people crying out loud: "Viva la virgin de la Luz!" (Long live the virgin of light!). For the following week public life in Tarifa comes to a stop. The town is partying for the week. |
